The research project on the localization of key valves for the thermal system of large advanced PWR conventional islands was officially launched recently.

The kick-off meeting was organized by State Nuclear Electric Power Planning Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. An expert panel from the Major Special Projects Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Nuclear Power Major Project Office of State Power Investment Corporation attended the meeting. As a joint participant, Zhejiang Yongsheng Technology Co., Ltd. took part in the kick-off meeting.

This project falls under the major special project for large advanced PWR nuclear power plants. Building on the outcomes of the project titled "Independent Design and Manufacturing of Key Conventional Island Equipment", it targets key valves supporting the thermal systems of conventional islands for AP1000 and large advanced PWR nuclear power plant demonstration projects. To fulfill the overall strategy of independent development and global export of China’s nuclear power industry, break the reliance on foreign suppliers for key control valves used in the thermal systems of conventional islands of large advanced PWR units, and guarantee the smooth implementation and safe operation of subsequent projects, carrying out localization research on such valves is an urgent task.

Leaders and experts from the Major Special Projects Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Nuclear Power Major Project Office of State Power Investment Corporation listened to the project progress reports submitted by all joint participants and delivered important instructions on the project.
